I hope you remember

Just like any other festival in Indian culture,Raksha Bandhan too is celebrated with great vigor.

Its that time of the year when Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolates are all the rage. With beautiful rakhis, new glittery clothes, and decorative thalis,us sisters are promised to be protected by our brothers as we tie a special embellished cotton ribbon on their hands. It’s like a sister’s day where we are pampered as much as can be.

But all year round,we constantly fight with, bad mouth, annoy and irritate our brothers. Atleast I’m guilty of it!

We often forget what role a sibling plays in our lives, until we realize its Raksha Bandhan.

In our culture, saying ‘I love you’,is not how we express our affection for someone,we show love in the form of respect because saying it is just not a part of our nature. We love our brothers, but rarely express this to them, just like they rarely express it to us.

I wrote this poem to express exactly just that.I can’t recall the last time he was home for Rakhi. Fortunately,he’ll be home tomorrow and I hope this brings a smile to his face.I think I’ll spare irritating him just for today 😀

I HOPE YOU REMEMBER

WP_001185

There was once a child,

Naive and bright.

Expected himself to build a castle out of a home,

He felt weak, as he wanted to achieve more than he was told.

His sensitivity disappeared and wisdom set in,

He fought battles from within.

Hiding his true feelings behind the curtain of a smile,

He learned lessons many times.

Things changed drastically,

His life changed completely.

The child had matured into a man,

And that’s when he ran.

Still running he’s making history,

How he’s fighting is still a mystery.

Today, you are the one I admire the most.

I hate you, yet I love you the most.

You’ve hurt me, I’ve tried too, but I failed miserably as I’m not as strong as you.

Born so dissimilar, to the same parents,

We were destined to make a difference.

I may be behind but I’m not far,

Since now I know I had you from the start.

Tears drip down my face as I write these lines,

I’m glad now I know you will always be by my side.

    • Really?!
The castle incident is real!My brother felt pressured as a bright child, when he was told to draw a house in school,he drew a castle instead.
And the second one comes from me feeling inferior to him 😛
Thank you so much for reading this. 🙂
