I’m back with another Do It Yourself Necklace and this time, made entirely of straws!
Yeah, you read that right. Annddd this is exceptionally sturdy!(To my shock as well!)
This has a very ‘Egyptian’ feel to it and honestly,I think this can add just the right amount of drama to a very simple day look.
I can’t wait to wear it at the perfect opportunity, which should be super soon!
Things you’ll need :
1.17 Straws.I found an entire party pack lying around at home and used it pretty wisely 😉
2.Any flame source,I’ve used a candle.
4.A pointy nail.
5.Spray paint :Any color of your choice.
6. Jewellery making wire.
7. Jewellery making chains.
8.Lobster clasps (optional).
10.A pair of sharp scissors.
11.A thin ball pen refill.
12.A set of pearl beads(17 to be exact).
13.And the fatal Fewikwick.(Or superglue)
1.With the help of a marker, mark lines across like so,in the shape of a triangle, with the center straw the longest and the exterior straws the shortest.
2.Cut each straw as per the marking.
3.After cutting out each straw,it’s time to pierce a hole through them so as to allow the beading wire to pass. Please follow the pictures below :
4.Pass the beading wire through the straws to make a diverging spread like so.
Place a newspaper in a well ventilated area(preferably outdoors) and begin spraying the straws to a color of your choice.Mine are gold.
This is what it should look like after drying.
iii.ADDING STRENGTH :
To add strength to your straw structure, roll individual strips of paper or newspaper around a thin cylinder such as a pen refill and insert it into each straw and cutting off the excess.
As a finishing last step ,add pearls to the straw ends so as to prevent the newspaper from showing. You can also add small golden beads to the top holes of the straws.
Pass your chains through and you’re all done!
I’ve made another one of these but it’s slightly different,it’s process will be up next!
Until then, keep crafting!I hope one of you tries this out! 🙂
